🇬🇧GCSE maths: exam technique for students who freeze
- 22 ans d'expérience
I taught secondary maths in Yorkshire for twenty-two years, much of it with students who had been told they were not maths people. I now tutor in the evenings, which is when homework panic actually happens. Most of the students I see do not have a maths problem, they have an exam problem. They can do the work in the kitchen and lose twenty marks in the hall. That is technique: reading the command word, showing method so that marks are awarded even when the answer is wrong, and knowing when to leave a question and come back. I start with a past paper and a timer, because that tells me in half an hour what three weeks of conversation would not. Then we fix the two or three specific habits that are costing the most marks. Grades move quickly once a student stops losing marks they had already earned.

Ce qui le distingue
Most students lose marks they had already earned, by not showing method. Fixing that is worth more than another term of content, and it takes about two sessions.
