Podcasting: sound, structure and actually finishing episodes

11 años de experiencia
Correo verificado

I have produced podcasts for eleven years, independent shows and a few for organisations, and I have edited well over a thousand episodes. Most of my work now is helping people who have started a show and stalled. Three things kill podcasts and none of them is talent. Audio that is tiring to listen to, which is usually room echo and not the microphone. No structure, so episodes run eighty minutes because nobody decided what the episode was. And a workflow so heavy that producing one episode takes a weekend, which no one sustains past episode nine. I am blunt about the room. People buy a six-hundred-dollar microphone and record in a kitchen with hard walls. A forty-dollar microphone in a closet with coats in it sounds better, and I would rather tell you that than sell you a list of gear. Send me two minutes of raw audio before the session and I will tell you what I hear.

Lo que le distingue

A cheap microphone in a room with soft things in it beats an expensive one in a kitchen. I will tell you that instead of selling you a gear list, and it is the single biggest change most shows can make.
