🇨🇦Grain farming: rotations, soil and machinery decisions
I farm thirty-two hundred acres of wheat, canola and soybeans in southern Manitoba, third generation. Twenty-seven years of my own decisions, including several expensive ones I would rather you did not repeat. Where a conversation helps most: deciding a rotation when prices have moved, working out whether a machinery purchase pays for itself at your acreage, and reading soil tests that nobody has explained to you. That last one matters more than people think, because a lot of fertiliser gets bought on habit rather than on the test. I am not an agronomist and I do not sell inputs. I am a farmer who has run the numbers on his own operation for a long time and who will run them on yours honestly, including telling you when the answer is that your acreage does not justify the equipment you are looking at.
