🇨🇦Reactive dogs in the city: walks that stop being a fight
- 16 years of experience
I have trained dogs in Toronto for sixteen years and I specialise in reactive dogs in dense neighbourhoods, which is its own problem. A dog that would be fine on a farm can be overwhelmed on a street with a streetcar, three dogs and a patio every thirty metres. The dogs I see most are rescues who lunge and bark at other dogs, dogs who cannot settle in a condo, and dogs whose owners have stopped walking them at normal hours because it is too stressful. That last one is the real cost: the family's life shrinks around the dog. I work with distance, timing and routes before anything else. In one session we can usually redesign your walk so that you stop rehearsing the problem five times a day, and that alone changes things within a week. Film one walk on your phone before we talk; that video is worth more than any description.

What sets them apart
Most people walk the same route at the same hour and rehearse the problem five times a day. Redesigning the route is free and it usually shows within a week.
