Combi boilers and heating faults, explained before you pay for a call-out

Twenty-six years on the tools around Greater Manchester, Gas Safe registered, the last twelve working for myself. Most of the houses I go into are nineteen-thirties terraces with a boiler fitted by someone who has since retired. The calls I get every winter: the boiler locks out with a fault code and resets if you hold the button, the pressure drops to zero every fortnight, or there is no hot water but the heating still works. All three narrow down quickly once I know the make, the fault code and whether the problem is cold-start or constant. A hundred-pound call-out for a reset is the thing I most want you to avoid. I work with Worcester, Vaillant, Ideal and Baxi, which covers most of what is fitted here. I will also go through a quote with you line by line. If somebody has written down a new boiler for a faulty diverter valve, you should know that before you sign it.

What sets them apart

I will read a quote with you and tell you what is padding. A new boiler when the diverter valve has gone is a two-thousand-pound answer to a two-hundred-pound problem, and it gets written more often than it should.
